more textile jewelry and overnight FP!

I am into textile jewelry lately. I made this multiple wearable necklace with felted pebbles and handmade silk beads ( and some gorgeous olive donut wooden beads). The pebbles are not a plain color but are made with diff shades of merino wool, it gives more dept, methinks. The silk beads are made of a vintage tie :-)

African touch

One torn (silk) pair of children trousers and one torn silk scarf make lots of silk beads.

I made another necklace with the beads. I combined this time with horn batik beads from Kenia and Ethiopean silver beads beaded on a (self dyed) silk thread. (from now on in my shop.) clcik on the pictures to go to the shop.

Using these African beads made me think of the fact that no one can beat African people in repurposing and recycling, they are simply the best in it! (have you ever seen the beautiful toys they make out of scrap metal and wood, and look how creative these boys have been in the pic above:-))

I've been working this weekend on my challenge creation. This time the theme is: recycling, sustainable future. hosted by Vadjudtka? Go visit her shop with wonderfull mixed media jewelry!

I like the idea of recycling and repurposing a lot.

I have lots of beautiful clothes of my kids in gorgeous fabrics that I can't throw away. I love to visit flee markets and buy vintage fabrics, just because I am fond of these vintage patterns and colors.

One day (when I've learned how to sew) all these clothes will have another live as a bag or tote, a headband, a brooch or maybe I make postcards out of them :-))

For my Challenge creation I used a torn silk scarf (one my mother dyed herself in the Seventies) and a torn (silk) pair of trousers (it was really worn out since my three daughters have worn it :-) , cut it into pieces and made some silk beads out of it,.

I combined them with destash beads of the same colorshades and some gorgeous ribbon and silk threads. By using the ribbon as closure you can adjust the lenght of the necklace.

Look what hubby brought from Kopenhagen: a very yummie cheese, I wish he brought more of this, maybe one of the Danish girls of the EST knows what kind of Cheese it is?

He brought also some strange chocolate balls, they look yummie , but I am afraid no one here in the house likes it, he will have to eat them himsel :-))

Hubby went to Ebeltoft in Denmark to start a project (in collaboration with University Ghent)with Cheetahs. Ah well, if I had known before.... I thought Cheetahs were apes! (stupid me), hubby says a lot of people do that , it's Tarzan who brought the confusion by giving his ape the name 'cheetah' :-))

Wednesday is our day :-)))

Op woensdagnamiddag moet ik altijd een oogje dichtknijpen... Als er niet geknutseld of gespeeld wordt,dan wordt er gekokkereld. En vandaag was het zowat alles tegelijk: grote zus bakte een yummie appel frambozentaart en kleine broer experimenteerde met verf, terwijl kleine zus een legohuisje bouwde en mama grote zus op één na, naar een vriendinnetje bracht om samen te spelen. Daarbij komt dat de poetsvrouw verstek gaf deze week, dus je kunt je de rommel wel voorstellen ten huize Janssens.

As every week: a busy wednesday afternoon: Maia baked a yummie apple-raspberrie pie, while little brother experimented with blue paint, little sis Mies build a house with Lego, and Meron was out playing with a friend. The cleaning lady is ill these week, so you can imagine the mess here in the house, ...........oh, no,... you can't :-))

But we enjoyed the pie and that is the most important!

recipe for apple raspberry pie

- 120 gr butter

- 100 gr sugar

- 3 eggs

- two handfull of frozen raspberries

- 3 apples

- a spoon of baking powder

- ready made puff-pastry

Melt the butter and mix with the sugar , the eggs and the baking powder..

Put the ready made puff pastry in a baking tin and prebake it in an oven of 150 degrees for 10 minutes. Cut the apples in slices and put them on the prebaked pastry. Straw the frozen raspberries over the apples and pour the butter-sugar-eggs mixture over it.

and put it in an oven of 180 degrees for half an hour.

simple and so very yummie!
