Sinterklaas is off again to Spanje! Read the whole story about this European tradition here.
I always find it amazing how people are shopping for Sinterklaas presents, kids must be overloaded with all kinds of toys considered to all the parents you see leaving the toy shops with tons of toys and stuff! I am sure kids are already happy with some chocolates, speculaas, marzipan and one single toy!
hm... with Copenhagen in my mind... Isn't that also a way to save the planet: to be more sober and severe in our spendings...
Go for handmade and repurposed stuff!

So time to think about the Christmas Pimping! I found some lovely ideas on flickr!
I do hope I have time to make my own this year!
The kids prefere the real one: I think it has a bit an old fashioned look!
We have a tree in the garden who survived already for 3 years, so we'll dig it up again for this year, the kids will adorn it with the glittering balls that are now stocked up on the attic.

But I will make my own Christmas decoration too, one with recycled stuff...
to be continued...

Just want to show some pictures of my two youngest with Sinterklaas who brought a visit to school!

Flickr Favorites: the darkest days...

1. Whirl-it Lampshade, 2. yellow lampshade, 3. postit lamp, 4. Monkey print lampshade by Lush Designs

Created with fd's Flickr Toys
It's this time of the year: the darkest days!
Why not enjoy them and relax on the couch with a hot cuppa chocolate, a good book and the charming cosy light of lampshades :-)

Making this Mosaic, I realised I did not yet blog about the lampshades of my friend Laurence who exposed her collection of lampshades some time ago at our 'openhouse' in Bruges. I Made some pictures, but gosh, it was difficult to capture her beautiful handmade lampshades in a picture. Her work is very 'graphical', no wonder, because she is a graphic designer!
Enjoy the pictures!

Flickr Favs and my happy bunch of kids

1. 44detail, 2. heels ober head, 3. Glass pendant, 4. yellow aqua details

Ok, I found my energy back, (maybe it has to do with the beautiful weather this morning and after a refreshing bikeride to school with my kids) I can only hope it lasts... :-)

Quite a happy Mosaic, maybe I was still in the happy mood of last sunday, the pictures show how much fun we had with the kids at the playground. And I can tell you I am so happy to see how my eldest kids are helping my little one who is a bit disabled. That is the spirit!

The last days there is a lot of commotion in Belgium concerning the following theme:
'do kids with Down Syndrome have the right to attend a regular public school'
I say YES! Kids with Downsyndrome live in a 'normal' family too, so why can't they go to 'normal' schools then. Lots of opinions are based on prejudices!
I think government should give more facilities to teachers with a kid with Down in their class. !

In two weeks I will be in Bruges again,
a friend of mine lives there and she holds 'open house'.
Laurence Kalman shows her lampshades, Jean Bernard Boulnois shows paintings, and Feurfatale shows jewelry of course :-)

We worked on this 'promising' theme:
Once upon a time....
Il était une fois....
Er was eens...

This inspired me to make this fairytale looking Flickr Mosaic, I know it's a whimsical collection, but I like 'clash of styles'!

Flickr Favorites in ebony

Hop over to Artminds blog to find more Flickr favs!

Did you notice that Ebony Lady is back in my shop?
I started with the collection in October last year and I still love the design.
The beautiful black combines so beautiful with lively colors!
Most of the designs are one of a kind as I work with flowers that are rare to find. I like it like that, repeating is so boring to me!
The materials are gemstones, glass, cinnabar, corozo and enameled copper.
I don't use plastic.
You can find the pieces below in my shop.

Want to know more about the beautiful ebony wood?
Ebony is one of the most intensely black woods known, which, combined with its very high density fine texture, and ability to polish very smoothly, has made it very valuable as an ornamental wood.
Did you know (because of it high density) that ebony wood is the only wood who not floats on water, but sinks! The best-known ebony may be that from Diospyros ebenum, native to southern India and Sri Lanka. Ebony has a long history of use, with carved pieces having been found in Ancient Egyptian tombs.By the end of the 16th century, fine cabinets for the luxury trade were made of ebony in Antwerp. (bas-relief), Within a short time, such cabinets were also being made in Paris, by ébénistes, which remains the French term for a cabinetmaker.Nowadays it is used for instrument making like piano's and guitar plectrums.
