textile jewelry

it's been a while since I have been working on my textile jewelry.
so it made me smile
when a sweet lady asked me
to make this one for her.

and really,
I do love
the photographing part
of the job too!

- handfelted olive pebbles
- handmade silk beads (from a repurposed tie)
- crocheted cotton ball
- Ethiopean silver beads
- handcolored and torn silk ribbon

there are not that much textiles in my shop right now,
but you can browse my sold items (or my Flickr Gallery),
if you like a design,
just ask me,
maybe I can another one in the same style!

sunny days

beautiful weather ,
as this is so rare these days, we try to enjoy a lot!
eating outside
yummie salads and ice cream
little bike rides with the kids
and me playing with water and soap!

As I am running out of cat brooches,
it's time to make some more,
Because I want to take a bunch of them to the Amsterdam Fair 6th of june
they are lightweight, so they will keep me company on the train to A'dam.

Find some of my collection in my Etsy shop
Mijn Kattebroches vind je in mijn shop maar nu ook op Earthlings (als je liever in Euro's aankoopt)

ButtonThursday

I love using vintage buttons in my creations.
Can't be on any thrift market without bringing new old buttons home:-)

Here I combined with felted (from eco merino wool)pebbles, ethiopean silver beads distressed vintage wooden beads and beads made of a silk tie.
Natural,earthy and ecological!
I bought this horn button a while ago on a thrift market in Ghent,
it's a rough one, but I like that!

Do you want to know what Lady Gaga has with buttons?
Then quick hop over to Kraplap's blog:-)

Wear it as you like!

Thanks a lot for your cooperation (in the previous post).
I decided to finish this one with an adjustable silk ribbon. So one day you can wear it longer, the other day as a choker, fitting your oufit!!
All beads are handmade by me! the wool is ecologic and te silk is repurposed (from a shawl). Te silver beads are from Ethiopean origin.
This textile necklace is very comfy and super lightweight, perfect for spring and summer. It's in my shop right now!

long or short?

Lately I have been working on new fruity textile necklaces (part of them are custom orders)
I am always doubting about the lenght, that is why I often chose for making adjustable necklaces.
I thought it was fun to do a little survey about this. Just because :-)

NOT made in China

Guess what an indecent proposal I got today. I have been contacted by a Chinese firm. They studied my designs and proposed to make large quantities of my stuff for a competitive price. They can deliver within a week...
Can you imagine tons of my designs necklaces travelling the ocean in one of those huge containers? (probably made by teenage Chinese girls for half a dime in doubting and unhealthy circumstances)
I - certainly - NOT!

More then ever I am convinced to thrift, recycle and repurpose and to make one of a kind or small series of designs, like I always have done...
I know, that way, I will never be rich, and I am not good in big bussiness, but I love what I do and it makes me happy!

So hereby I want to thank my sweet customers and my EST and Etsy friends who are supporting my small handmade business!
I have said :-)))

This said, I want to mention a proposal which I am much more into!
The Eco webshop Kudzu asked for a bunch of my cat brooches, but they liked them to be made with ecological woolroving.(they even gave me the website where I could find that woolroving) I do like these kind of proposals!! Kudzu rocks!

So I am very proud to announce that my felted creations will now be made with ecological woolroving. I am very happy about it. What a great way to reduce my ecological footstep ( and the one of my customers!.)

In the meantime you can already find my fabric earstuds at kudzu's.

cute cats

Since a long time I have a chinese cat-accessories addiction.
It started 10 years ago with some embroidered hats of the mountain people I brought from Vietnam (My daughter Maia is from the Etnie of the mountain people 'the Muong'). And step by step it became a collection of hats, also from the Chinese Mountain people, since my brother fell in love with China (and a Chinese girl) and brought me some presents.
I am so fond of the cat-hats, the cat-slippers and the cat-cushions that I let me inspire by these cuties: I made cat brooches, started to work with ready felt fabrics, but I did not like the stitching, so why not just form the cat heads out of felt, lots more fun, and I think they are more cute too!

Discover my new brooches soon in my shop!
