Guess what an indecent proposal I got today. I have been contacted by a Chinese firm. They studied my designs and proposed to make large quantities of my stuff for a competitive price. They can deliver within a week...
Can you imagine tons of my designs necklaces travelling the ocean in one of those huge containers? (probably made by teenage Chinese girls for half a dime in doubting and unhealthy circumstances)
I - certainly - NOT!
More then ever I am convinced to thrift, recycle and repurpose and to make one of a kind or small series of designs, like I always have done...
I know, that way, I will never be rich, and I am not good in big bussiness, but I love what I do and it makes me happy!
So hereby I want to thank my sweet customers and my EST and Etsy friends who are supporting my small handmade business!

This said, I want to mention a proposal which I am much more into!
The Eco webshop Kudzu asked for a bunch of my cat brooches, but they liked them to be made with ecological woolroving.(they even gave me the website where I could find that woolroving) I do like these kind of proposals!! Kudzu rocks!
So I am very proud to announce that my felted creations will now be made with ecological woolroving. I am very happy about it. What a great way to reduce my ecological footstep ( and the one of my customers!.)
In the meantime you can already find my fabric earstuds at kudzu's.

Wow. You certainly are famous enough to draw their attention. And your work is lovely enough to warrant a copycat. You have made a wise decision by not accepting this indecent proposal.
If I could even attain 10% of what you have achieved with Etsy, I would be resting on my laurels happily :)
You can consider the Chinese offer a compliment as well. They see a big business potential in you...it is a different question, that you dont see a business potential in them :-)))

Actually, I had been contacted by a Japanese wholesale company a couple of years back. They proposed they could find a manufacturer for some of my stuff in China. Of course, I turned them down. Chances are these companies will copy your work anyway so be aware.
I don't think they understand that we are beading and creating for our own fun and not for massproduction, it's really indecent, but a little bit ego-caressing anyway !
I am the happy owner of Fleur's earrings, and I consider her a wonderful success the way she is!

I salute you for that decision, I am trying to avoid MiC in general and have left lots of things in shops because of that (certainly, my wallet was happy at least).
But I think Karuski is right, they are probably just going to copy you now.
oh my goodness! that is troubling about the china proposal.. so glad you turned them down! I guess it's an insulting kind of flattery. :) But huge congrats on your other proposal!! Those cat pins are super fun and adorable. :)
I guess it is one of those thanks but no thanks compliments. Maybe a book proposal would be more welcoming as it would encourage more people to live by the ideas and ideals that you share. I have bought books by other crafters whose work I like but do not necessarily want to copy but feel I can be inspired by and learn from.

Commodities with out the stamp "made" in China is a rare thing. So glad that you are sticking to your own thing and not having them mass-produce your items.... your design is unique and beautiful :o)
