Magic baking pearls

a few days ago,
artmind
surprised me
with her magic baking pearls!

the picture
above
proves it

(baking pearls can be used for blind baking. When you use puff pastry for a pie, it's best to pre-bake the dough beforehand. You just place a baking sheet on top of the pastry and then add weight to it.)

these pearls are very usefull!
but I realise
I forgot the baking sheet! :-)

A pie a week: Blue cheese and tomatoes

I admit, one of my new years resolutions was to bake a vegetable pie every week.
I used to make lots of pies years ago, but getting kids also changed my cooking!
I was determined to serve them once a week a pie with vegetables, (sometimes also meat or fish added) and that they learn to like the pies!

Well, this has been really a huge succes, so far !, but I did not always take pictures!
I'll try to pick up the thread of my 'pie a week' with this one.
Find the first one here.

4 big tomatoes sliced)
200 gr blue cheese
1 egg
50 ml crème fraîche
salt & pepper
dragon, Estragon (fresh or dried)
premade dough

prebake the dough in an oven of 200°c for 5 minutes
put the sliced tomatoes on the prebaked dough,
pour a mixture of the egg, creme fraiche, salt, pepper and dragon over the tomatoes
and divide the blue cheese over the tomatoes.

put in the oven (180°) for about 20 minutes!

yummmie!

a pie a week

One of my new years resolutions is to make more vegetable pies.
I used to make lots of pies years ago, but getting kids also changed my cooking!
Now I am determined to serve them once a week a pie with vegetables, (sometimes also meat or fish added) I do hope they learn to like the pies!

here is my first attempt:
it's an easy-peasy recipe!

- ready to bake pastry
- 5 eggs
- 20 ml low fat cream- 1 spoon sausbinder (riceflour thickener)
- 2 tomatoes
- 1 courgette
- 500 gr brocoli
- gratedcheese (parmesan or gruyère)
- pepper salt, thyme

Prebake the pastry in a baking mould (150 degrees till it's light brown)
Mix the eggs, the low fat cream, the grated Cheese, the riceflour thickener, pepper and salt and thyme.

put the sliced courgette on the pastry
(the courgette avoids the pastry of becoming moisty)
put the broccoli on the courgette (in little parts)
put the sliced tomatoes on the broccoli
pour the egg mixture on the vegetables
Put in the oven for about 30 minutes (180 degrees)

Serve with yoghurt sauce and luttece (made with the Tzatziki herb mix from Oil and Vinegar)

Wednesday is our day :-)))

As every week: a busy wednesday afternoon: Maia baked a yummie apple-raspberrie pie, while little brother experimented with blue paint, little sis Mies build a house with Lego, and Meron was out playing with a friend. The cleaning lady is ill these week, so you can imagine the mess here in the house, ...........oh, no,... you can't :-))
But we enjoyed the pie and that is the most important!
recipe for apple raspberry pie
- 120 gr butter
- 100 gr sugar
- 3 eggs
- two handfull of frozen raspberries
- 3 apples
- a spoon of baking powder
- ready made puff-pastry
Melt the butter and mix with the sugar , the eggs and the baking powder..
Put the ready made puff pastry in a baking tin and prebake it in an oven of 150 degrees for 10 minutes. Cut the apples in slices and put them on the prebaked pastry. Straw the frozen raspberries over the apples and pour the butter-sugar-eggs mixture over it.
and put it in an oven of 180 degrees for half an hour.
simple and so very yummie!
