textile jewelry

it's been a while since I have been working on my textile jewelry.
so it made me smile
when a sweet lady asked me
to make this one for her.

and really,
I do love
the photographing part
of the job too!

- handfelted olive pebbles
- handmade silk beads (from a repurposed tie)
- crocheted cotton ball
- Ethiopean silver beads
- handcolored and torn silk ribbon

there are not that much textiles in my shop right now,
but you can browse my sold items (or my Flickr Gallery),
if you like a design,
just ask me,
maybe I can another one in the same style!

Sandy Seashore

crocheted balls and rounds
the result
of some quiet moments
on my holiday in France
(kids in the swimming pool or playing with their newmade friends)

I had taken
some cotton in the colors of the moodboard I made before
but had no idea what to do with it...

the result is a mix and match natural necklace (horn, seeds, wood, cotton)
in saturated colors (sand, honey, lavender, sandal, chamois)
that brings a bit back from the warm summer days (it looks like they are definitely over now!)
My entry for the challenge of Rikrak: Sandy Seashore.

{ Dutch }

gehaakte bolletjes en schijfjes
het resultaat van een rustig moment
op reis in Frankrijk

ik had een paar bolletjes
meegenomen

textiele sieraden te gaan maken! }

en toevallig
past dit snoer perfect voor de challenge van Rikrak: Sandy Seashore.

inspiration in/from a shell

it happens me
always
when I am on holidays

after a few days
I am so relaxed
that
inspiration comes to me
easily

then I am happy I brought some things
to create with
in this case
lots of
cotton yarn

I guess
I just have more time
to notice
all these little things
around me
I have them back home too
but there I am mostly
busy
doing other things

My youngest daughter Mies
found this
tiny empty shell

just look at it
a little bit closer
and
discover
how nature
makes the most
awesome colorcombinations...

and
by coincidence
I found these gorgeous handmade Raku buttons
from a ceramics artist
at Sarlat
can't wait
to finish
this necklace
back home!

A pretty birthday present

A while ago I got a very nice present from a dear friend!
The pretty 'Abstract' necklace was a birthday present!
yes, it's a while ago,
have been so busy since....
but I have worn it a lot
and always forgot to take pics...
but here it's is, and it fits perfect with my fabric earrings studs!

Can you guess who is this dear friend?
I am gonna meet her in Amsterdam in a few weeks,
and I am pretty excited about it!

For who really has no idea, find her Etsy shop here.

and you can find my little earstuds here.

(and ok, I know, I rarely comb my hair :-))

Wear it as you like!

Thanks a lot for your cooperation (in the previous post).
I decided to finish this one with an adjustable silk ribbon. So one day you can wear it longer, the other day as a choker, fitting your oufit!!
All beads are handmade by me! the wool is ecologic and te silk is repurposed (from a shawl). Te silver beads are from Ethiopean origin.
This textile necklace is very comfy and super lightweight, perfect for spring and summer. It's in my shop right now!

long or short?

Lately I have been working on new fruity textile necklaces (part of them are custom orders)
I am always doubting about the lenght, that is why I often chose for making adjustable necklaces.
I thought it was fun to do a little survey about this. Just because :-)

one silk tie - two necklaces

Jimma Necklace

purple river adjustabe necklace

lovely weather today, all the snow was melting away, the sun came peeping and I hurried taking pics!
This is the result of the tie where I put my scissors in: two textile necklaces, one is adjustable with a suede ribbon, the other is the one I showed in the previous post: a necklace of my Jimma collection.

My creative workspace

I decided to hop over, once in a week, to the thriftshop.
It's fun finding cool things that I can upcycle! I like the idea very much of giving a new life to thrown away stuff! and it's amazing how a color, a form or a texture of a find can give new inspiration :-)

so I turned home with:
- a book with linen cover O.50 Euro
That I used right away in my little improvised photo studio! This brand new Japanese earrings pair is in my shop already

- a vintage Children's book: Alice in Wonderland O.50 Euro
A little ceramic milkpot with nostalgic print of roses O.50 Euro
I'll show you later what I am up to, with these finds!

and a silk tie...
The silk tie already changed form:

I learned the technique (of making silk beads) from my dear friend Veerle from Nevousinstallezpas.
added some Ethiopean stilver beads, a beautiful turquoise stone, a verdrigris filigree bead, and handmade pure copper rings to make this beauty!

The Jimma necklace is in my shop right now!
